Making Big Decisions

Unknown-1

Hello friends. As Summer is unfortunately beginning to wind down, I’ve been thinking a lot about moving onto college and my future. I also have been speaking to many people who have dealt with their future in different ways. Along with that I have been seeing many interviews with people who have made a difference in the world but approached everything quite differently. I realized that many people do not go off to college right after high school. Taking a gap year is more common than I thought. I never even explored the option of taking time off to travel or do something extravagant. That time you take off can help you grow and learn what you want to be when you are older.

Of course, some people already know who they want to be, so they go off to college to be a lawyer or a doctor. I also know what I’d like in life which I am fortunate for, but I also believe that not everything needs to be rushed. I think kids feel rushed to go off to college to please their family and because it is the thing to do in order to get a decent job. Going off to college is a big decision and I think that some kids feel rushed into it because of pressure from their family and friends. It is something everyone should decide for themselves because not everyone is ready to be shipped off to the unknown right after high school.

It’s not only college; I feel that big decisions take time to think over and no one should tell you what to do or how to feel. Pressure to be a certain person can cause you to lead your life into a completely different direction than what you envisioned. The last thing you would want to do is be stuck in a life that isn’t what you want, and being at a job you don’t even care about. How is that living your life? It’s basically living someone else’s.

I think everyone needs to do whatever is necessary in order to figure out what they want. Pleasing your parents is something we all want to do but pleasing ourselves is just as important. If your gut is telling you do to one thing but you ignore it to do something else, odds are your going to miss so many amazing opportunities in life.

I know a girl going through this exact issue right now which is what inspired me to write about it. These decisions are hard to make, especially when they are life changing. It’s hard to do, but sometimes you have to leave the comforts of your home and get uncomfortable somewhere else in order to be who you want to be. Whatever it is you do, just make sure it’s what you want, and not what someone else expects you to do.
